Shaikh Hamad bin ‘Issa Al Khalifa Office of His Majesty the King P.O. Box 555 Rifa’a Palace al-Manama BAHRAIN Heerhugowaard, datum Your Majesty, I am writing you as a person who is also in his own country concerned with the respect of Human Rights. Please allow me to ask your Majesty’s attention to the case of JEHAD SADEQ AZIZ SALMAN and EBRAHIM AHMED RADI AL-MOQDAD These young men were arrested on 23 July 2012 during an anti-government protest in Bilad al-Qadeem. On 4 April 2013, they were sentenced to 10 years imprisonment. Both were only fifteen years old at the time. At this moment they are detained in Jaw prison, Bloc 6, south of capital Manama. In spite of their age, they both were under the age of 18, Jehad Sadeq Aziz Salman and Ebrahim Ahmed Radi al-Moqdad are tried as adults. I urge you to quash the two boys’ convictions and order a retrial in a court that adheres to the principle that all children must be tried according to the rules of juvenile justice. I also urge you to protect Jehad Sadeq Aziz Salman and Ebrahim Ahmed Radi al-Moqdad from torture and other ill-treatment, ensuring that their allegations of torture are independently investigated and that statements obtained through the use of torture or other ill-treatment are not accepted in any court proceedings. Thank you for your attention in this important matter, and I am looking forward to positive results and news about these young men. Yours sincerely and respectfully, handtekening + naam en adres The Netherlands
